The JT105 Alliance forum was created in April, 2016 for people concerned about the 105 acre "gated", high density, walled, suburban style housing tract proposed to be built in the heart of Joshua Tree by outside investors. The name of the proposed development is Altamira. Despite massive opposition from the community and despite massive opposition at the public hearing (and for years prior)- and blatant non-compliance with the Joshua Tree Community Plan, the San Bernardino Planning Commission approved the development on April 7th, 2016 in a 4 to 1 vote. The Joshua Tree community is appealing that approval to the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors. The date of the hearing before the Board of Supervisors is September 13 (Tuesday), 2016 at the San Bernardino County Government Building. A group was started after the April 7 Planning Commission hearing called the JT105 Alliance, and signatures of many residents opposed to the development were gathered and presented with the Appeal paperwork. Initial invitations to this forum are based on the email addresses given by the JT105 Alliance petition signers, and it would be good to add as many people as possible. Some of those email addresses I was not able to read, but I have used the ones I can read to invite to the forum. I'm Kip Duff, I have a home in Joshua Tree, and I'm one of the petition signers. I am a tanker truck mechanic and photographer, and I'll be at the hearing on September 13th.
The appeal is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 at the San Bernardino County Government Center in San Bernardino at 10:00 am. You can attend the hearing there- or by going to the Bob Burke Joshua Tree Government Center in Joshua Tree for live interactive video conferencing. There will be opportunities for 3-minute comments from the public at the San Bernardino County Government Center as well as at the Bob Burke Center in Joshua Tree.
*The San Bernardino County Government Center is at 385 N. Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92415 (909 387-3841). The hearing is in the Covington Chamber on the 1st floor.
*The Bob Burke Joshua Tree Government Center is at 63665 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, east of town, near the Courthouse.
In the case of Altamira, and other proposed "developments" by out-of-town investors, the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors have shown unexplainable lack of attention to the residents of Joshua Tree, the Joshua Tree Community Plan, the Morongo Basin Conservation Association, the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council, the Joshua Tree Municipal Advisory Council, and all other area civic groups which all unanimously oppose Altamira. Please help in opposing Altamira by voicing your opinion at the Hearing on September 13th. At some point, County officials will have to respect Joshua Tree residents- and the more people are opposing, the sooner that will happen.
